The recently completed extension to Ullapool Ferry Berth has been awarded a Commendation for Excellence by the Saltire Society and Institution of Civil Engineers (see Awards page).
The use of a reinforced concrete caisson to allow the pier to be extended overnight between ferry sailings was described as “a fine example of lateral thinking to provide an appropriate low-risk solution to a difficult construction problem”.
All those involved in the project (Ullapool Harbour Trust and their technical advisers CMAL; Wallace Stone’s design management and supervision staff, and RJ McLeod’s construction team and subcontractors) have been praised for their positive approach and proactive collaborative teamwork in delivering an innovative solution to the challenge of zero disruption to the ferry service.
