ERISKAY AND SOUND OF BARRA INTEGRATED TRANSPORT PROJECT

2.7km rock armoured causeway from Eriskay to South Uist, carrying a two lane road and incorporating a 38m long bridge. Rock armoured breakwater, concrete slipway and overnight berth at Ceann a Gharaidh, Eriskay for Eriskay to Barra ferry service.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Assessment of design wave climate, detailed design of core and armouring, design of 3 span bridge in precast and insitu concrete on steel piled foundations, design of temporary and permanent slipways and overnight ferry berth structure.

  • Rock filter 175,000 m³ Concrete bridge deck 374 m³
  • Rock armouring 190,000 m³

KEY FEATURES

Careful specification of rock core and armouring to suit local quarries and site conditions. Innovative design of berthing steelwork to eliminate underwater construction. Design of 2 No reinforced concrete slipways. Design of precast / insitu reinforced concrete bridge supported on steel piles.
